Abstract: This textbook on empirical research methods, written by Christian SEIPEL and Peter RIEKER, deals with the logic of quantitative and qualitative research as well as different methods of empirical research. All chapters offer a description of specific research methods and a comparative perspective on both research paradigms. In this context, the authors endeavour to bridge the frequently assumed irreconcilable gap between quantitative and qualitative thinking. In particular, the last chapter of the book is dedicated to potentials and difficulties of combined methodological approaches. It is concluded that, in spite of certain caveats, this book makes a welcome contribution to the increasing demand for methodological open-mindedness of emergent social researchers.
