Volume 3, No. 4 November 2002Review NoteWillfried Althoff (2000). Lost in Cyberspace? Möglichkeiten Sozialer Arbeit mit dem Internet [Possibilities of Doing Social Work with the Internet]Christian Carls (Germany)Abstract: The book describes forms of virtual communication on the Internet and their use by young people and young adults. It demonstrates how this new means of interaction can be used as a "test ground" for playful identity development. One of the chapters concentrates on "Learning by using the Internet." The quality of this chapter (as well as references to social work approaches elsewhere in the book) does not reach the standard of clear description so typical of the new communication forms prevalent on the Internet itself. Key words: virtual communication, identity, virtual communities, social work, e-learning This contribution is only available as a full text in the German language.
