It is in many ways a personal book, often referring to the author’s own experience and reflecting his own intellectual development. He is clear about his preferences and doubts, but offers good arguments for both. While it is presented as a textbook for undergraduates, it may be considered too demanding intellectually in some cases. The review offers an extensive overview of the book’s contents, in order to facilitate a teacher’s choice of it as a course book, but it is recommended without reservation to any serious qualitative researcher.
