Associate professor of sociology at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic); Ph.D. in sociology (Prague 1997), MA in special pedagogy (Prague 1987). Teaching contemporary social theory and qualitative research methods; head of the MA sociology programme "Biographical sociology" at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. Since 1998 member of staff of an interdisciplinary research institute Center for Theoretical Study. Founder and editor-in-chief of the Czech and Slovak journal for qualitative research Biograf. Member of board of the Virtual Institute. The Internet Center for Social Studies and teacher of its on-line courses. During 1996-2000, international correspondent of Sociological Research Online. Mellon Research Fellow at Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris (France), 1993 and 2001. Author of Estetika sociálního státu: o krizi reprezentace (nejen) v sociálním zabezpečení [The Welfare State Aesthetics: On the Crisis of Representation (not only) in Social Security] (in Czech, 1998), editor of Our Lives As Database -- Doing a Sociology of Ourselves: Czech Social Transitions in Autobiographical Research Dialogues (2000).
