Exploring the processes whereby students attempt to understand and make meaning of academic material through writing
With my colleague Dr. R. Engle, I am assessing the effectiveness of using case studies as a method to teach theories of learning and development to graduate students who are enrolled in a teacher education program
Psychology and the Arts:
Investigating how psychological concepts are embodied in theatrical and filmic representations of human life and how that embodiment shapes the process of individuals' understanding of themselves and of psychology
Exploring the processes whereby novice jazz musicians become expert jazz musicians
History & Philosophy of Psychology/Social Science:
Examining quantitative and qualitative research paradigms adopted by the social sciences, and how research methodologies are conceptualized in the social sciences in the West and in the East (with Dr. T.C. Hsu)
Exploring the biographies of concepts such as learning, intelligence, and intuition
Assessing the role played by the neobehaviorism of Edward C. Tolman in the development of cognitive psychology, particularly in the work of Jerome Bruner and
Herbert Simon
Exploring the emergence of psychological thought in 18th century poetry and literature
Examining the history of research methodology in the social sciences and how the choice of methodology may have shaped researchers' conceptualizations of what they were investigating
