Volume 6, No. 2, Art. 1 May 2005Review NoteHeinz Bonfadelli (2002). Medieninhaltsforschung. Grundlagen, Methoden, Anwendungen [Media Content Research. Foundations, Methods, Applications]Mike Steffen Schäfer (Germany)Abstract: The volume presents itself as an introduction to "media content research", i.e., an intersection of research traditions with an interest in a specific type of data: media content. Aiming to be a presentation of different methods and methodologies and different theories and fields of application, the volume mainly serves as a reference book. Different approaches are introduced and presented alongside each other. However, linkages between them are seldom shown. The presentation of empirical work dominates, while the appearance of theoretical foundations remains sketchy at times. The volume may prove useful for readers with little knowledge in the fieldmainly as a stepping stone to relevant source texts and source approaches. Key words: media, communication, content analysis, discourse analysis This contribution is only available as a full text in the German language.
